Gotcha Day: April 10th

Though there was a smile on her face, her true emotion was betrayed by the tear drop suspended just below the inside corner of her right eye. Her little hands wrapped around the railing as she watched Dascha and me descend the staircase to depart that final time. Her face, her sadness, her yearning; such […]

We are home…all of us

I will write an epilogue when there is time, but we are home, children and all. Finally, we are done with the adoption. Now we can just be sleep deprived, overjoyed, “oh-my-god-what-have-we-got-our-selves-into” parents.

Ekaterinburg Trip 2 Travelog: Day 18

If fortune continues to rain upon us, this will be my last entry written in Russia. Tomorrow is the day we are to pick up the resolution of the court and file all the documents that need filing to finally, finally, pick up the children. We are hoping, then, that by late afternoon tomorrow, we […]

Ekaterinburg Trip 2 Travelog: Day 16 – Happy Easter

Religion and spirituality is a personal calling and a sensitive one to discuss. That Tanya and I have been living through a miracle is something that neither of us can deny. Ekaterinburg Trip 2 Travelog: Day 14

Imagine the further realization that you don’t know how many consecutive marathons you need to run and that you have […]

I sit at the hotel bar, sipping a cup of tea catching up on some work as the children nap at Baby House #5. Behind me are the sounds of children playing and a saxophone playing “Only You”. It is Sunday afternoon here and the hotel has a family brunch, with jazz every Sunday. There […]

Ekaterinburg Trip 2 Travelog: Day 8

It is the morning of the eighth day. I sit in the hotel room as we wait for Yana; the sounds of the morning traffic permeate the window and curtains resulting in a pulsating mechanical moan – the urban equivalent of the surf of the ocean. We count down the days. Today is day two […]

Ekaterinburg Trip 2 Travelog: The greatest moment

You would think, that on the day we had our court hearing, the greatest moment would have been the one where they read the decision to register Tanya and myself as the parents of Dascha and Nikolai. And to be sure, as it was the climax of a process that started in November of 2005, […]

Ekaterinburg Trip 2 Travelog: Day 6

We need now only wait the 10 day waiting period to provide any interested party the right to appeal. But today, we were told: Yes, you are their parents. I will write a full blog entry later, but for now we celebrate and I figured you would all appreciate the update before we headed out
